Saul: The Rebel King

The first king of Israel was a rebel king, leading an occupied people in rebellion against the Philistines. In 1 Samuel 13, Saul loses the support of God because he rushed a pre-battle sacrifice. In such dire circumstances, why did God care so much about sacrifice? Why was Saul's mistake such a big deal? The answer reveals to us the key challenge of ruling on God's behalf.
